Please make sure you’re aware of our Road Closures, and consider what it means for you on Carnival night. Some of this is unchanged from previous years, but please note our Parking suspension, we will have the power to tow away any vehicle on the route of the carnival.

Castle Street (Castle Street Car Park entrance to Tangier Car park entrance) and Tangier Way (Riverain Court to Castle Street) will close at 2.30pm to allow the Procession to form up safely. Access to Lidl and Tesco from Wellington Road is not affected.

The Procession route  – Wood Street (Tangier Way to Bridge Street), Bridge Street, The Bridge, North Street, Fore Street, East Street, East Reach and Chritchard Way – will close at 6.30pm. Hammet Street and part of Corporation Street will also close at 6.30pm to protect approaches to the route.

All parking along the route is suspended from 6.30pm. Tow Away powers may be used to remove any vehicles parked on the route after 6.30pm.

Vehicles will be able to access and exit the Wood Street area via the road next to Taunton Funeral Service. The one way system will be replaced by Stop/Go controls. There is no access to Tesco or Wellington Road through this area.

Roads will re-open along the route in stages as soon as it is safe to do so.

All Somerset Council Car Parks except Enfield are open as usual. The Orchard Multi-Storey will close at 7pm as usual.

All of the above implementations, and re-opening these roads will happen in accordance with the TTRO we hold for the event, and in consultation with Police and other relevant authorities.
