Bringing the Carnival Procession through the town centre means we have to close some roads! Please make sure you’re aware of these and consider what it means for you on Carnival night.

We are using the traditional route from Tangier Way to East Reach so the closures are very much the same as previous years. We begin to assemble the procession mid-afternoon so Castle Street (Castle Street Car Park entrance to Tangier Car Park entrance) and Tangier Way (Riverain Court to Castle Street) will close at 2:30pm. Access to Tangier Car Park, Lidl and Tesco from Wellington Road is not affected.

To make sure the route is clear of traffic and safe for crowds to gather town centre roads will close at 6:30pm. Traffic will not be allowed to travel to Wood Street (Tangier Way to Bridge Street), Bridge Street, The Bridge, North Street, Fore Street, East Street, East Reach or Chritchard Way. Hammet Street and part of Corporation Street will also close at 6:30pm to protect approaches to the route.

All parking along the route is suspected from 6:00pm. If there are any vehicles parked along the route after 6:30pm we may use tow away powers to remove them if they are considered to be an obstruction or potential hazard. Vehicles will be able to access and exit the residential Wood Street area via the road next to the Taunton Funeral Service. The one-way system will be replaced by Stop/Go controls. There is no access to Tesco or Wellington Road through this area.

Vehicles will not be able to leave Haydon Road or Victoria Gate whilst the closure is in place. The procession will leave Tangier Way at 7:30pm. We expect it to take about two hours for all entries to get to the finish line at the bottom of East Reach. We will open roads along the route in stages in agreement with the Police and Highway Authority as soon as it is safe to do so.

All Somerset Council Car Parks except Enfield Car Park are open as usual. The Orchard Multi Storey will close at 7pm as usual. The road closures, parking suspensions and timings are all in accordance with the Temporary Traffic Regulations Order we have from Somerset Council
