This page will have all you need to know about this years event!
Taunton Carnival will commence at 7pm on Saturday 19th October 2024 from Tangier Bridge.
The Route
The procession will begin on Tangier Bridge, go down Tangier Way and turn right onto Bridge Street, then up North Street, East Street and down East Reach before stopping at the bottom of East Reach and dispersing in Chritchard Way.
Car Parking
We recommend using the public car parks around the town, which are free after 6pm. These include Canon Street, Duke Street, Whirligig, Victoria Gate, Tangier and Castle Street. Please be aware that Enfield Car Park will be closed all day to enable entries to assemble.
Road Closures
Please be aware that from 2:30pm on Carnival day, Tangier Way will be closed from the bridge near Tesco (access to the car park and Lidl remains in place throughout) to Tangier Scout Hut, and to the entrance to Churchill Living (Access remains in place).
From 6:30pm, roads will close around the route above. You will be unable to drive along the route. This is to ensure crowds can prepare to watch the carnival in a safe way. We understand that this may affect your journey, and would urge you to plan your route. If you are unsure of what this means for you, please feel free to get in touch with us.
The procession itself
This year, we’re very lucky to have entries from near and far, and carnival clubs from across the county to entertain you. We can’t be specific with how many entries we have, and floats we have, because circumstances mean this can change at the last minute. We expect the procession to take between 45 minutes and an hour to pass any given point on the route.
Glow Sellers
Street sellers of toys, glows etc are there of their own accord, they do not support carnival in any way. We therefore carry no responsibility for any issues that you may face if you purchase from the sellers
Donate, Donate, Donate
Did you know, carnival costs thousands of pounds to put on every year?
A big part of recovering that cost, is through your donations on carnival night. Our collection through the lorries and tins is the reason we can hold Taunton Carnival every year! Remember, not only do we use it to fund carnival in the future, we donate to lots of local charities and organisations too, so anything you can give is important.
You may see QR Code posters up around the town, where you can scan to donate via PayPal, we will also have Tap and Pay Machines so you can donate via card. Of course the collection lorries and tins will be coming around on carnival night too! Alternatively, hit the donate button on our website!
